If the wall is unplastered, for example in the shell or because the old plaster has been removed as part of renovation work, a new layer of plaster must first be applied. This layer is called base plaster or undercoat plaster and will be applied to the intact masonry units. Do not forget the primer!
With the base plaster you protect the load-bearing masonry from mechanical damage and level and smooth the wall, this serves as a base for all further coatings.
Base plasters are applied by hand or machine and removed by hand, perfectly even and smooth surfaces are a job for true professionals.
